About Belterra Park Racino

Belterra Park Gambling and Entertainment Center began as a horse racing track. Established in 1925 as River Downs, the racino is one of the country’s few tracks with a turf racing strip.

River Downs has hosted several high-profile horses and jockeys over the decades. These include the famous racehorse Seabiscuit, who made two appearances in 1936.

Fast forward to 1996, when Full Card simulcasting became legal in Ohio. River Downs installed the most modern in-house simulcasting center in the country. However, proximity to the Ohio River has often exposed the racino to flooding.

River Downs changed its name to Belterra Park when Pinnacle Entertainment bought it. More renovations in 2014 converted it into a full-service gambling and entertainment spot.

Gambling Opportunities at Belterra Park Racino

Belterra Gambling and Entertainment Center offers a variety of gambling opportunities, including:

Casino Gaming

Belterra Park opened its casino in 2014 and has over 1300 slots games on the casino floor. They include popular titles such as Wheel of Fortune, Walking Dead II, Buffalo, and 88 Fortunes. The casino also provides video poker machines and electronic table games like roulettes and blackjack.

On the downside, the casino does not offer table games and poker tables. Additionally, online casinos are not legal in Ohio state. Thus, Belterra Park doesn’t have an online platform. It’s also the only casino in Ohio that does not have slots in the smoking section.

On the upside, the casino is open 24 hours and provides free alcoholic drinks to customers. It also hosts the Ohio Lottery, which has various scratch ticket games like Powerball, Lucky for Life, and Mega Millions.

At one of the casinos in the Boyd Gaming portfolio, Belterra Park is part of its B Connected rewards program. It’s a rewards scheme for loyal customers that gives points for every $5 spent on slots. Players then redeem their points for discounts at the gaming machines and restaurants. They may also receive benefits like free cruise trips and gift packages.

Live Horse Racing

Belterra Park racetrack is the pride of Ohio and a great destination for horse racing fans. It opened in 1925 as the Coney Island racetrack, which later became River Downs. The track was originally along the Ohio River. However, subsequent flooding necessitated its move closer to the barn area.

The racetrack features a one-mile dirt oval track and a seven-furlong turf course. It hosts thoroughbred and standardbred harness races. The 2014 renovations expanded the paddocks to include 1350 stalls. The seating area at the grandstand also increased to 15,000 from 9,350.

The grandstand and clubhouse offer great views of the track and the surrounding area. The Belterra Park Racing Club is available for those who want to get more involved in the racing experience.

The racetrack opens from 11 am to midnight and offers about 100 days of live horse racing between April and November. Plus, it has various stakes races and special events throughout the season.

Moreover, they offer simulcast and off-track betting on tracks in Ohio, Kentucky, and other states. The clubhouse features a state-of-the-art simulcasting center with 50 terminals and HDTVs for betting on racetracks nationwide.

The in-house TV system gives punters access to race replays, previews of upcoming races, and changing odd formats and programs. The racebook provides several betting options like Daily Double, Exacta, Trifecta, and Superfecta.
