ohio sports betting licence deadline

The Ohio Sportsbooks Preparing to Launch on January 1st

We’ve got a much better view of how Ohio sports betting is shaping up after a flurry of license applications before last Friday’s deadline.

With 22 businesses applying in total, it looks like there’ll be no shortage of betting options in the Buckeye state come January 1st next year.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission’s updated list shows the names of the mobile operators who have applied for licenses. As set out by sports betting legislation passed in late 2021, all licenses will start on the same date, Jan 1st, 2023.

Three different types of licenses will be issued to operators in Ohio: Type A, Type B, and Type C. Ohio online sports betting is permitted with a Type A license. Type B covers retail betting, and Type C is for sports betting kiosks.

Ohio Mobile Sportsbook Providers

There were a total of 20 applications for ‘Type-A’ licenses by mobile management service providers, or MMSPs.

Here are some of the big names in the mix:

✅ PointsBet Ohio

✅ BetMGM

✅ Seminole Hard Rock Digital

✅ Betfair Interactive (FanDuel)

✅ Penn Sports Interactive (Barstool)

✅ Crown Ohio Gaming (DraftKings)

✅ HillsideOhio (bet365)

Applying for a license by the July 15 deadline means these mobile Ohio sportsbooks can be fully operating come January 1 next year. Any operators missing this initial deadline might not have enough time to get up and running by the new year.

Ohio Pro Sports Teams Partner Up

Things are looking healthy for anyone in Ohio wanting to bet on pro sports as the list includes all the state’s major teams across the biggest sports.

From the official Ohio Casino Control Commission list, we can see who Buckeye state professional sports teams are partnering with.

Here are the standout partnerships:

NFL major player, the Cleveland Browns, has chosen to partner with Bally Bet for both their retail and mobile betting.

The state’s other NFL team, the Cincinnati Bengals, has chosen BetFred as their mobile operating partner. Leaving their retail choice as yet unannounced.

Ohio’s pro-NBA team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, are partnering with Fubo for their mobile platform and Caesars as their retail option.

The state’s Major League Baseball teams also submitted applications by the July 15 deadline.

Cleveland Guardians have gone with bet365 for mobile and Fanatics for retail. Cincinnati Reds chose Underdog Sports as their mobile partner and BetMGM for retail.

Columbus Blue Jackets, Ohio’s big players from the NHL and applied for licenses with Fanatics (listed as FBG Enterprises Opco) for both their retail and mobile sports betting operations.

For Major League Soccer, Columbus Crew and FC Cincinnati have gone with Tipico and SuperBook for their mobile sportsbooks, respectively.
